My husband and I are expecting our first baby on April 17, 2009! We are very excited, and like most families that are first starting out we don’t have a lot of money. :) Sooo, I just want to know what furniture you consider absolutely nessecary? I know a crib, stroller, etc. But what about a bassinet? Dresser? Changing table? Any advice on what you used/didn’t use would be great. Also I was wondering what you moms think about accepting used items for your baby? For example a friend of the family wants to give us their stroller, which is a couple of years old. Do you think this is safe? What is your opinion/expirience with this? Thanks!!!

I understand where you are coming from. We didn’t have much money either. We ended up using our income taxes which worked out great. I tried to buy things that could be used for a while. For example. I bought a crib that could also be used later as a toddler bed and it was only $100. Then the mattress was $40. I also bought a bassinet/play yard. It is a play pen but the bassinet was connected on top so that after he used the bassinet he could then use the play pen. I only paid $60 for that. As far as a dresser is concerned I got one passed down to me. I don’t think there is a problem with it being used at all. It isn’t even a wood dresser. It is one of those plastic organizer things you can get from Walmart with the drawers. It works great. He is only a baby so it was just great to stick in his closet and use there and that way it didn’t take up so much space in the bedroom. I also saved money buying the travel system. It is the car seat and stroller together and it only cost me about $120. I would opt not to get a changing table. Anyone I’ve ever known has always said that they never really used it anyway. I don’t think we would have used one had we had one. We usually ended up changing our son on the bed. If you can get a used one given to you then that would be good but changing tables are WAY too expensive to be what they are. Instead of the changing table we bought a thing for $10 that was an organizer for diapers and things and then just changed him on the bed or sofa, it was more convenient anyway. Then we bought a baby tub. Which some people say you can just use the sink or tub but I found it so easy to have the bath for about $10 that I could put the baby in and not have to worry about holding him up in the tub or sink. It let me be able to use two hands to clean him and keep him steady etc. So my advice would be try and get things that can be used as more than one thing or for a long time and shop around to find the best price. I would also look at reviews on the items it has great information from mothers who have already had the product. I think it is okay to accept used items, you just might want to look up on the company website or research to make sure that item hasn’t been recalled. They recall many things over years because of dangers to baby. Every time I have gotten something used I have just looked up to make sure it was still safe for my little one. I also always make sure to clean it real well and sanitize it. Oh and just a little info I picked up, they say to never give your baby used shoes because they need new shoes that will conform to their feet. The old shoes have conformed to someone else feet and won’t give you baby the support he/she needs especially when learning to walk. I didn’t know that so thought I’d share what I learned. Hope I helped. If you have any more questions I always come back on so just add extra info to your question and I will try my best to answer it. Congrats on your little one.

I am a furniture designer and I am interested in creating a nursery line. Do you Moms/Dads have any suggestions on how to make my cribs more convenient for you? I love modern furniture, so definitely this
line will be modern as well. I am also planing to make it eco-friendly, and convertible (crib-daybed). What would you like to see in the future cribs? Any problems with you current cribs, suggestions? THANK
YOU!

I know a lot of parents don’t feel that the sliding rails on cribs are really safe, so what if instead of the rail sliding down the top piece (like a foot or two) kind of folded down and then locked into place. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a crib that did that so it might be a rather unique feature.

so im 15 i want to redo my room right now i have a HUGE desk that take up 3/4th of on wall and a tv that take up the rest of that wall i have a dresser on the opposie wall and my colset has its own wall then my bed is opposite if my closet. o yea my wall color is baby blue it sucks. what im trying to go for is like a new york rangers type of room but i dont want to make it like a kid room i want it to be a place where i can hang put with my friends but also show off my team pride. so if you can help me with wall color and what furniture i should put in there it would be great

for colors you can do rangers colors(red, white, dark blue) maybe even use a rangers jersey to make into a pillow, find smaller pieces of furniture ranger colored like a blue chair and red lamp and white sheets, hang up pictures of you favorite players in frames on the wall and make sure for space purposes all the furniture and things are away from the center of the room and everything is against a wall,it will make the room look alot bigger! and even put your bed next to the window its alot cooler in the summer and just looks good

Good ad…..but in the wrong place. You need to put where you are doing your cleaning. It doesn’t say which cities you will clean. You also may want to work on your title. We all need office cleaning…but is your ad going to make me take action on it? Nope. I’m going to keep typing away.

You might want to consider, "Are you tired of looking at the dust piling up while you’re trying to make a deadline". Or, "Wouldn’t it be nice for someone to clean your office so you can focus on work?"

Post it on craigslist or www.domystuff.com where people are looking for cleaning….not for 10 points for the best answer. ;)

Good luck!

I want to be able to stain it pretty dark. I want to cut it so it has a round top as well. Thanks for any help.

With the staining, it probably won’t matter much. From a cost stand point, pine would be the cheapest… Based on your design, consider plywood where ever possible for large sections, of course you’ll need some kind of molding/framing to cover the plywood edges.

Pls help me choose the colour of my furniture in my living room. My wallpaper colour is white, while the carpet is red. Now I need to buy a sofa, a bookcase, coffee table and a TV stand.

At some stores, they have matching units (coffee table, bookcase, side table), in either oak, maple or walnut colour. In your opinion, which colour will fit my room better?

My sincere thanks,

I would get rid of the red carpet.

But other wise I guess cream sofa and a dark wood for the furniture.

I don’t know though..what goes with red carpet? 1974.
