I asked this question 2 days ago and was very happy with the answers and I want more. My kitchen will contain the following, including a dining room table. The kitchen/dining room is open and 15×25.
1.bakers rack for microwave, etc
2. three 4-drawer tables to go in front of three windows
3. special shelves for dishes
4. two solid wood 2′x2′ islands for work stations, they have two shelves on bottom
5. traditional sink base
6. special cabinet for oils, vinigars, spices, etc, coffee station will go on top
7. fridge
8. pantry with doors for food
9. big 3′x5′ island with shelves, cupboard space, drawers, and serves as breakfast bar with 2 stools
No dishwasher, I prefer to hand wash. The walls will be covered with art and my great mug collection. All these pieces are un-finished and will be stained to match.
My husband would prefer traditional, but I am creative and think so far out of the box, I don’t even remember the box!! Thanks!

This concept is really interesting – It sounds very much like old French or Italian kitchens – which were portable. I would love to have one just like it, but I would add baskets, including hanging baskets for ripening fruit.

If you are staying put for many years, you will be very happy with this perfectly tailored to your needs kitchen. However, because such a kitchen is so specialized, it might actually devalue your home. So, as long as you realize that when it comes time to sell this house, you might have to install a fitted kitchen, all will be well. This scenario does have an advantage – your perfect kitchen can go to your new house! Good luck- I am envious!

I had my baby in July and it is probubly too late to do anything but I bought my babys dresser at babies r us and it is such poor quality. the drawers fall off and it is not sturdy. Also, when I open the drawers they rip off. There have been a lot of complaints now that i see about this furniture. It is buy Da Vinci. I was trying to contact a corprate office but I cant find anything online. I do not have a receipt because it was a gift. Is there any ideas out there?

I had my baby in July as well and I have no problems returning anything to Babies R Us. They seem to have a very liberal policy and stand behind there products. I even returned their brand of diapers because I didn’t like them. I had only used about three in the box but they took them back. I also returned a couple of bigger items that I did not like after I put them together and realized how impractical they were. I would just call your local store and see what they say. Good luck and congratulations on your baby’s birth!

And does it "go" and everything? ( I wasn’t getting many answers in the home and garden section). So I have all black furniture that I can’t replace. I want to go with a pink and white room so I was thinking of using this bedding: http://www.target.com/DwellStudio-Target-Robin-Bedding-Collection/dp/B002I0T65K/ref=br_1_30?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&searchView=grid5&searchNodeID=2211869011&node=2211869011&searchRank=pmrank&searchPage=2&searchSize=30&id=DwellStudio%20Target%20Robin%20Bedding%20Collection
(By the way my bed looks a lot like this: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10747045)
Then I was going to put black quotes on cream colored walls (should I do pink instead?). And have all other accents pink and white (lamps, pillows, etc.) Does this sound cool?

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10747045

Sorry about that.

that sounds really cool. i think you shouldn’t paint your walls pink because that pink is a very loud color, and for the bed to really stand out and work with the room, the color should not be overused. plus, if the walls are bubble gum pink, you might get a little sick of the color. other than that, i think it sounds VERY cool!!

Hope this helps you out (:

…for a 2yo boys bedroom walls? The room is quite small so nothing too oppressive. No wallpaper. I’m open to different walls being different colours. It’s white/cream at the moment and I’d like to jazz it up a little.
Here is the room at the moment. The colours aren’t as dull as they look in the picture but it gives you a general idea. Also that furniture is being taken out and being replaced with nicer, but still blue, furniture. http://media.rightmove.co.uk/61k/60461/60461_235_IMG_07_0001_t.jpg

a nice butter yellow, or if you feel daring go for a bright lemon. Blue and yellow is my favorite combo!

Before I start, thanks for reading this!!

So….. I have what you could call a bedroom on the small end. It is 10ftx10.5ft, and I have a ton of trouble keeping it organized. I have 2 problems:
One, how do I clean it? It is really messy and I don’t know where to start.
Two, how do I keep it clean? I have a lot of trouble with this.

Here is some info that may help:
Furniture:
I have a desk that is 4 ft long and 2 ft wide. It has two tiny drawers and a hutch with some small shelves I use for displaying little keepsakes. My model horses are on top of my hutch. I love them and could never put them away.
I use a little wooden filing cabinet with a shelf for my bedside table, and I put my earring tree, clock, lamp, etc. on it.
3 bookshelves that are always filled to the brim. I love to read.
My bunk bed. My dilemma with this is whichever bunk I don’t sleep on gets stuff piled on it, for instance, my guitar and electric piano for writing songs.
My shelves in my closet, which are large and deep. They are packed with art supplies, sewing materials, clothes, papers, finished crafts with nowhere to go (Like my dragon sculpture), my horseback riding stuff I rarely use, clothes, etc. My problem with these is, how do I keep them organized? I have a small rod in there for my formal clothes, so dresses, etc.
My dresser. It has three drawers, but I only use 2 for clothes. The other I use for hairbrushes, my favorite sweatshirt, clothes for the next day, ponytail holders, bobby pins, etc. No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to put away all my clean clothes.
My floor!!!! I seem to put stuff down on every flat surface. I have a checklist on my wall for all this to help me check it off as I clean, but it doesn’t seem to be working!!! Help!!!!!
I want to save my parents money though!!!!

I would love ideas on how to make a reading area that simulated a window seat without taking up a ton of space!!!
I mean something that simulates a window seat, ie the same effect. Also, I have a cat, and since he was a stray we took in and he fights with our other one, his litter box is in my room and he tracks litter everywhere!!!! How can I work with this problem as well?

with ur bunk bed when u make it up in the morning, put ur pillows in the corner. it makes ur room look bigger. with all ur little gimicks and keepsakes, put them in an organizer that fits in a drawer. i bought a sock and underwear organizer and it is stuffed away in the drawer and i put all my litttle things in it….boby pins and ect. as for keeping it clean, always make ur bed because if u dont u will just put random stuff on it because it looks dirty. if u always make ur bed, u will want to keep it clean and not put random junk on top of it. this will keep u in the habbit of it staying clean. as for how to clean, go to youtube and look it up on videos. it is a great tool. for the window… we need moreinformation. is ur window and actual seat window? or not? wat is the size?

(Not Ikea.com) I’m looking for a reasonably priced furniture website (kinda like Ikea!). What I’m specifically looking for is a king sized bed frame. Anyone have a cool website for what I’m looking for? 1) Reasonably priced furniture website, and 2) King sized bed frames…thanks!!

become.com is a website that offers you comparison shopping on a lot of items, including king frames. Bottomdollar.com is another one.

My true suggestion, ask around where you live. I know in my city, there are a lot of furniture stores that do not advertise very well and are mainly known through word of mouth.

I’m talking about the beds in the orange room that Aimee stays in. The beds are a dark wood color and they are platform beds with long headboards and nightstands attached to them.

I don’t know, but if you want unique and really nice furniture, try IKEA

Hi! Im looking to move into my first apartment. I want to buy all the furniture new. I bought most of my kitchen stuff from wally world, so that is done.

Now, Im aiming for the rest of the place. I want to buy brand new. I want modern furniture, but at the best price. I won’t buy used because I can’t stand the pet odors, and alot of the stuff out there is pure crap. Where is the best place in the Buffalo, Ny area to get modern new furniture for dirt cheap?

Im looking probably for a sofa, loveseat, and chair/ottoman. I may ditch the loveseat idea as those are a pain to lay on. Then 2 end tables, a coffee table, a TV stand, and a corner computer desk.

Thanks in advance.

I would check to see if you have a local Ikea store. People seem very excited about their products and they seem to be more of a modern look.

single chairs, diningroom table and chairs set and kitchen stools at the breakfast bars.
You can add several as your backyard chair sets.

no. i don’t have a sofa or loveseat nor do i plan on changing what i do have. as for dining room chairs – too cumbersome pushing in and pulling out. as backyard seats perhpaps but one would have to continually check to see what may have moved into and is now living in the hole.

My mother-in-law wants to buy the crib for our baby. She asked me to pick out ones that I want, but all that I have picked out she doesn’t like and doesn’t want to get. What I really wanted was a 3 piece nursery set for around $200 that has everything that we need for the nursery (crib, changer, AND dresser). My husband and I are on a tight budget and can’t afford to get any extras ourselves. I figured it wasn’t asking her to pay much either.

She said she didn’t want to do that and wanted me to pick out a nicer crib, so I did. She didn’t like it either.

She wants to buy a crib that’s dark wood. I want white because it will look so pretty with the bedding I already purchased and my rooms are trimmed in white (white baseboards, white doors, white windows, etc). I just think white would look so pretty and that dark wood would clash with the pink walls we are planning on having and the bedding.

No matter what I suggest, she won’t buy! It’s starting to frustrate me. At the same time I feel bad for not wanting the dark wood cause she is buying, but in the same regard, if my husband and I were the ones buying, we would go for the $200 set and not have to worry about buying a dresser and changer. Ugh.

How would you feel and have you been in a similar situation?

Maybe your husband needs to step up to the plate and speak to his mother in regards of this situation.

He should tell his mom that you both are very thankful that she wants to help you out, but that she is making this a stressful situation cause she does not like anything that you have chosen. And, you both prefer having a white furniture set, so that it compliments your baby’s nursery and the baby bedding. If she wants to continue to make this a big situation when it does not have to be, then she needs to either let you pick the set that you want. Or, tell her you both will be buying the set yourselves.

I do not understand why people have to make such big deals in the shorter scheme of things. I mean what is important here is that your baby has a beautiful crib in which to sleep in. Your mother in law needs to stop being so controlling. If she wanted to pick out the crib she should have just done so and surprised the both of you. I think it is sad when others are so controlling that way–like I will do this for you, if you get what I want. Same with those family members and girls’ buying their wedding dresses of their dreams. So many times the mothers/family members want one thing and the bride something totally opposite.

Just have a sit down discussion with her and let her know you are appreciative of all that she is doing for you , but that she is confusing you by her behavior. Best of luck!
