I am a straight male and my parents are buying me new bedroom furniture for graduation. I like the Hemnes collection at Ikea. Originally I was going to go all dark brown but then saw a display model on their website of the same furniture in a mix of bright white and faded red. I think it looks pretty nice but I want to get some additional opinions. So, would this combination get old/annoying after a while? Would it give off the impression that I am more interested in men than women? Does Ikea suck? Any other pertinent things of which I should be aware?

For reference, see

This drawer is available in both red and white so you can see the colors I am talking about.

Thanks.

Well, the masculine look you want is more about the accents than the color of your furniture. If you’re afraid of ‘looking gay’ then I would nix decorating with antique erotica and\or fertility statues. You don’t want to go overbaord though, and put up some rey mysterio or john cena posters.
My personal favorite is the dark brown, it’s classic and it stands out nicely in almost any decor, so if you wanted to redecorate in a few years, you could easily add it to your new style. I’m not a big fan of the white, but that’s a personal preferance, and if you have white walls, it will look horrible. The red is cool, but again, it will be harder to incorporate if you change your design in the future.
I’m not quite sure what gay furniture looks like, but that dresser in any three of those colors does not conjure up gay images (it’s really hard to talk clean right now). Putting a statue of a big stone penis on top of the dresser, now that might send a different message.
