I need ideas for a boys bedroom?
I have an 8 year old son, he wants to redo his bedroom. Right now its red with firetruck border. He wants something different, but he’s not sure how he wants it. Since I won’t switch from firetrucks trucks to police cars, we’re both a bit stuck. He has blue bedroom furniture and I don’t want to buy new. If any one can come up with any ideas I would appreciate it.
My son is 8 too and we are working on his room as well.
Personally….I’m not into any kind of themes at all, they grow out of them every year it seems like. I am going for a plain but modern room that he can grow into easily and not get sick of. If you go with plain, but add colors you can use little things as accents that can easily be changed out. Michaels craft store sells vinyl decals…they are about $15 my son picked the robot ones. So I painted his walls a light green with white molding and trim, his bedspread is different colors squares almost like a modern quilt, and some modern lighting. His toys and legos add the pop to the room I don’t think it needs to be all over the walls, too much stimulation.
I hope that helps.
I’m not sure which shade of blue his furniture is but you could do a pretty cool room using different shades of blue? So if his furniture is a dark blue then you could pain the walls a light blue and get medium blue pillows and maybe a bedspread with different color blue squares. I think it would be really cute!
Good luck
A nice batman theme might work, or an electric guitar border

Ooh, this would be tough.
I think at this age he might still be interested in cartoons and real kid stuff, but soon he will be over that and on to something else, so the real trick is to probably make it feel young, but able to grow with him.
I would stay away from a border and maybe just paint his walls. Take the blue and pick a couple more that you like. Like gray, light blue and navy. Paint each wall a different color. I would then find a geometric pattern (I’m envisioning circles) to make curtains out of and maybe mimic that pattern on the opposing wall or around his bed or door with a stencil. Make some throw pillows or a beanbag chair out of the same pattern. Find a bed set, rug and lamp that coordinates and your basics are done. Add a shelf/coat hook combo by the door.
Then you can add little details for what he likes now. If he wants policemen, you can get little police toys and put them on the shelf, buy a fake red flashing light, get a little police man uniform and hang it on the rack…
Obviously you and he will need to pick a mini theme for the room, but then say in two years he likes planes, take all the little cop stuff out and replace with plane models and pictures of plans on the wall. When he’s 15 and likes music and girls, it will all still work.

You could do airforce camoflauge (blue camo). Kids that age, you can usually never go wrong with sponge bob. You could also do spiderman or batman.
