Here is our Baby’s bedroom. The furinture is made by Ragazzi furniture and is their “Fantasia” line. There is a convertable crib, dresser with mirror and bookcase.. The walls are all painted. The upper portion of the walls are done in an eggnog cream color, and the bottom third is painted stripes in the colors of pink, yellow, green and white. All the paints are done in a satin finish. The bedding inside the crib is by Glenna Jean along with the matching window treatments. My wife Sandy added the butterflies on the windows for that added quality. Sandy also made both of the lamp shades for the room. The wall decor are select pieces from the Classic Winnie the Pooh. Sandy also planned the color scheme for the entire room while I provided the labor. We are both very proud of this room and will be even prouder of our little one once she (or he) is here. We were told 80% chance of a girl so we went with that, but if the baby is a boy we’ll make a couple adjustments accordingly. This room took appx. 2-3 weeks to complete from start to finish including the moving out of all the furniture we once had inside this room which we originally used as our media room. Toddler is what first time parents are waiting for. You may be not sure what you will need when your little boy or girl has grown quickly.
Budget is the first thing to think about. The price of toddler will be between a couple hundred dollars all the way up to a couple thousand and more. You got to know the cost you want to spend before you go out shopping because things get expensive and add up so quickly.
You will also need a couple of things for your toddle’s room. The first is toddler bed. There are a variety of toddlers that will be longer than the normal ones for a toddler, but you want to have something that will last for a long time than something you will be putting to the curb in a couple years.
Beside the bed, perhaps you will need some kind of dresser and wardrobe. Usually these will be included with a set that comes with your bed. Wood is nice but it is hard to clean. Modern hard plastic is easy to clean, is very durable, and generally costs a lot less than the alternatives. It can be difficult to find furniture that lasts for a long time and stand up to a beating when you have toddlers.

I would go with table 1
I had my baby in July and it is probubly too late to do anything but I bought my babys dresser at babies r us and it is such poor quality. the drawers fall off and it is not sturdy. Also, when I open the drawers they rip off. There have been a lot of complaints now that i see about this furniture. It is buy Da Vinci. I was trying to contact a corprate office but I cant find anything online. I do not have a receipt because it was a gift. Is there any ideas out there?
I had my baby in July as well and I have no problems returning anything to Babies R Us. They seem to have a very liberal policy and stand behind there products. I even returned their brand of diapers because I didn’t like them. I had only used about three in the box but they took them back. I also returned a couple of bigger items that I did not like after I put them together and realized how impractical they were. I would just call your local store and see what they say. My mother-in-law wants to buy the crib for our baby. She asked me to pick out ones that I want, but all that I have picked out she doesn’t like and doesn’t want to get. What I really wanted was a 3 piece nursery set for around $200 that has everything that we need for the nursery (crib, changer, AND dresser). My husband and I are on a tight budget and can’t afford to get any extras ourselves. I figured it wasn’t asking her to pay much either.
She said she didn’t want to do that and wanted me to pick out a nicer crib, so I did. She didn’t like it either.
She wants to buy a crib that’s dark wood. I want white because it will look so pretty with the bedding I already purchased and my rooms are trimmed in white (white baseboards, white doors, white windows, etc). I just think white would look so pretty and that dark wood would clash with the pink walls we are planning on having and the bedding.
No matter what I suggest, she won’t buy! It’s starting to frustrate me. At the same time I feel bad for not wanting the dark wood cause she is buying, but in the same regard, if my husband and I were the ones buying, we would go for the $200 set and not have to worry about buying a dresser and changer. Ugh.
How would you feel and have you been in a similar situation?
Maybe your husband needs to step up to the plate and speak to his mother in regards of this situation.
He should tell his mom that you both are very thankful that she wants to help you out, but that she is making this a stressful situation cause she does not like anything that you have chosen. And, you both prefer having a white furniture set, so that it compliments your baby’s nursery and the baby bedding. If she wants to continue to make this a big situation when it does not have to be, then she needs to either let you pick the set that you want. Or, tell her you both will be buying the set yourselves.
I do not understand why people have to make such big deals in the shorter scheme of things. I mean what is important here is that your baby has a beautiful crib in which to sleep in. Your mother in law needs to stop being so controlling. If she wanted to pick out the crib she should have just done so and surprised the both of you. I think it is sad when others are so controlling that way–like I will do this for you, if you get what I want. Same with those family members and girls’ buying their wedding dresses of their dreams. So many times the mothers/family members want one thing and the bride something totally opposite.
Just have a sit down discussion with her and let her know you are appreciative of all that she is doing for you , but that she is confusing you by her behavior. Best of luck!
