Suma taxes for the year was 190 euros. Bills are very cheap out here making your pension go a lot further. The cost of living report states that Spain is still a lot cheaper to live that England and we can definitely say it is living on a pension ourselves we still can save to get cheap flights to U.k. if needed. We have picked up flights as little as one euro plus taxes getting to England returns with insurance for less then 70 pounds.

I have a book shelf, bed frame and chest of drawers and they all have a strong and unpleasant odour, is this normal? I keep the windows open as much as possible and the odour has yet to fade.

Get a cleaner for wood finishes. Some are in cans and spray, but something like Pine-sol should be fine too.

Our bedroom furniture is old and tired looking but it is still in excellent condition and we still love the simplicity of it. it is natural pine and a very simple style. the bed is a queen size danish style with drawers for storage. the two side tables are small double drawer chests. the walls are a soft faded yellow ochre color, drapes and lamps are a gray/blue color. artwork in various shades of yellow ochre/gold/soft blues complements the walls and draperies/lamps quite nicely. the result is quite soothing and relaxing – we love the effect of the colors of the walls, artwork, lamps and drapes and aren’t willing to change those.
so now i want to paint the furniture. a friend gave us a very old white iron wall hanging that we absolutely love. i am considering painting the furniture the same shade of white as the iron. its a very soft faded white and i would take it to the paint shop and have paint color-matched to it.
i love the look of painted furniture and am eager to get started but i would love to hear other thoughts on white or what other colors you all might think would work!

What I think would look very nice is a marble effect with white or ivory paint (or whatever color you like) and a silver accent. It’s a gorgeous look.. Sounds like your soft theme/colors would be perfect for it too. You can have the marble effect as dramatic or as mild as you like, very fun project, easy too. I’d practice on a spare piece wood though just in case you don’t get the hang of it right away, but it is pretty easy to learn.
There are lots of "how to’s" online. Just search "how to get marble effect", you’ll get a bunch of helpful sites.. good luck, have fun with whatever you decide!
Oh don’t forget, whatever you decide to do, sand and prime first!

I have a chest of pine drawers that have been coated in varnish. Unfortunately, it’s had makeup bottles and a TV on top of it and there has been some considerable damage to the varnish layer (see link below for photo).

Unfortunately, these drawers aren’t mine (I rent a house where they’re included in the rent), and as I’m moving out in a few days I really need to find a way to either fix or minimise the damage- I know that rubbing a walnut on old vintage furniture works to darken chip and scuff marks, so is there some sort of method that can be used to fix up varnish damage?

Could really use some quick advice on this one, cheers!

Sand the damaged varnish starting with a more coarse to fine grade abrasion. That way the results will be best. After sanding revarnish damaged areas. You may need to varnish enough times to build it up until the old varnish level is equal with the new varnish.

I am a 16 year old girl and I’m going to be moving into a new room in our new house. The room I am getting is pretty big and more of a rectangular shape. However, it doesn’t get a lot of light. I have to keep the pine bedroom furniture I already have but I won’t be having a lot of furniture in the room – literally just the bed and bedside table, a chest of drawers, and some built in wardrobes (and maybe a chair). I want to make the room look big and bright but I want some originality and creativity in it too. Any suggestions?

Paint the walls a light color to make your room seem bigger and brighter. Get lots of lighting as well. You lots of brights colors as well.
