Painting my bedroom dark brown….what color for furniture?

I am painting my bedroom and dark chocolate brown this morning.The carpet is a cream color. All my furniture (bed frame,bookshelf, desk and dresser) are all different colors like brown oak and black. I want to paint them to go with the new brown color. Would it be better to paint them white or black? Any suggestions?
I should also mention that the other color is red (thats what my comforter and throw pillows are)
Until I red the last line, I was going to suggest RED. It still might not be a bad idea.
A tone between the brown and the tan might work. Maybe a Pearl Satin like on this chart: http://www.mecabrush.com/images/icons/airbrush_color_chart.gif
I would think that a seafoam green would look nice.
