……..After I have removed the varnish etc? Does anyone know a good site that can show me how to "wash wood" with a colour or how to get a "distressed" look etc?
get rid of half?
paint it and beat it?
what?

A fairly quick and cheap solution that I used on my brand new (boring) bedroom floorboards to give a rustic/distressed look is to use a small blowtorch and run it all over the wood until it just starts to blacken and burn, don’t go mad though, then rub it down slightly with wire wool. You can then use a wood dye to the colour you desire and finally apply a clear satin varnish.
Hope this helps, it looks great on my floor!

If you have it down to it’s natural grain, you can purchase a light stain and just give it a little color and protection.

I think you should travel with it to the pine forests of Scandinavia and set it free to roam the woods. Or, you could check out the link below, my personal choice would be a matt wax, but ‘distressing’ and ‘paint wash’ are covered. :0)

try the website below. It gives step by step how to stress the wood to give it the antique look, then tells you what products to use on it after you have stressed the wood, its a great site with step by step pics too!

You can buy a ready made wood-wash in most D.I.Y stores and in a choice of colours!
