I have 2 blue gray couches and black TV stand, coffe table, and side table. I would like to put up some back and white photos on my walls but I want to make the room look more interesting. I need a paint color that will look great. HELP!

Hi,

you should avoid any cold color, even if it’s pastel. This means no blue (even if it would suit the black furniture you already have, would be too cold due to the couches) or green (would just add to the cold effect of the tv stand and tables). The same goes for the photos. I suggest something extremely light, a brown or a cappuccino; even a warm white (white with a touch of brown or yellow) and sepia photos.

I have been reading book on color called The Color Scheme Bible by Anna Starmer that I checked ou at library. It has neat page in front that gives some simple rules about color.

It says that all blues and greens go together depsite hues, intensities, and shades. So if this is true you’d be safe picking out any color of blue or green you like.

Coral. Light coral would add plenty of color. Darker coral might darken the room too much. Try paint swatches of both. One wall dark coral and other walls lighter…same color, different hues. Best luck.

Might I suggest a very soft misty Grey color. I think this color will lend itself well to your art work sofas, and table. Just an added thought I would add touches of an accent color of green. Toss pillows, plants etc. Happy Decorating!

A light beige or cream would work well. It would give the room some color (more than just painting the walls white), would go well with your furniture, and would warm the room up a bit (as opposed to choosing a light blue or gray paint, which would make the room seem darker and smaller). You could also go with a light yellow or peach if you prefer.

To make the room even bigger and brighter, you could paint the ceiling white.

To define the room a bit, you could put up trim in a color that you think goes well with your paint color. If you choose a light tan or beige, white trim would work well.

To pull the room together once you paint, you could add accents (pillows, a rug, a vase, etc.) to your room in a color close to the wall color you choose.

Good luck and have fun!!!
